UPP1

Description

The UPP1 (uridine phosphorylase 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 7.

UPP1 is a human gene encoding the enzyme uridine phosphorylase 1, belonging to the uridine phosphorylase family. It has been shown to interact with Vimentin. UPP1's function involves the reversible breakdown of uridine, providing carbon and energy sources and enabling the salvage of pyrimidine bases for nucleotide synthesis.

UPP1 catalyzes the reversible breakdown of uridine into uracil and ribose-1-phosphate. This reaction is important for the utilization of uridine as a source of carbon and energy, as well as for the salvage of pyrimidine bases for nucleotide synthesis. UPP1 exhibits broad substrate specificity and can also process deoxyuridine and other similar compounds.

UPP1 is also known as UDRPASE, UP, UPASE, UPP.
