UNC79

Description

The UNC79 (unc-79 homolog, NALCN channel complex subunit) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 14.

UNC79 is an auxiliary subunit of the NALCN sodium channel complex, a voltage-gated ion channel crucial for maintaining resting sodium permeability and regulating neuronal excitability. This complex is activated by neuropeptides like substance P and neurotensin, as well as extracellular calcium, influencing neuronal excitability by modulating the magnitude of NALCN-dependent sodium leak currents.

UNC79 is also known as KIAA1409.
