UCN3

Description

The UCN3 (urocortin 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 10.

Urocortin-3 is a protein encoded by the UCN3 gene in humans. It belongs to the corticotropin-releasing hormone family. This gene is related to the corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) gene, and the protein it produces is a natural binding partner for CRF type 2 receptors. In the brain, it might regulate how stress affects appetite. It is also produced by alpha and beta cells in the pancreas, alongside glucagon and insulin. It triggers the release of somatostatin from neighboring delta cells, which in turn helps control the levels of glucagon and insulin.

UCN3 is also known as SCP, SPC, UCNIII.
