UBL5
Description
The UBL5 (ubiquitin like 5) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.
Ubiquitin-like protein 5 (UBL5) is a protein encoded by the UBL5 gene in humans. In C. elegans, lower expression of certain electron transport chain proteins in mitochondria during the L3/L4 stage results in increased UBL5 expression, leading to extended lifespans.
UBL5, a ubiquitin-like protein, plays a role in cell proliferation and sister chromatid cohesion by associating with spliceosomal proteins (PubMed:25092792). This interaction helps maintain spliceosome integrity and facilitates pre-mRNA splicing. UBL5 also promotes the proper function of the Fanconi anemia DNA repair pathway by interacting with FANCI, leading to the formation of FANCI homodimers (PubMed:25862789). Additionally, UBL5 provides protection against apoptosis induced by ER stress (PubMed:37315790).
UBL5 is also known as HUB1.
