UBE4B

Description

The UBE4B (ubiquitination factor E4B) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

The UBE4B gene encodes Ubiquitin conjugation factor E4 B, a protein crucial for protein degradation. Ubiquitination, the process of tagging proteins with ubiquitin, involves E1, E2, and E3 enzymes. UBE4B acts as an additional conjugation factor, E4, facilitating multiubiquitin chain assembly. Notably, UBE4B is a strong candidate for a neuroblastoma tumor suppressor gene.

UBE4B likely acts as an E3 ligase, collaborating with specific E1 and E2 ligases. It may also function as an E4 ligase, facilitating the assembly of polyubiquitin chains on substrates already ubiquitinated by another E3 ligase. Furthermore, UBE4B, in conjunction with STUB1 and VCP/p97, might regulate myosin assembly in striated muscles by targeting the myosin chaperone UNC45B for proteasomal degradation.

UBE4B is also known as E4, HDNB1, UBOX3, UFD2, UFD2A.
