UBE2O

Description

The UBE2O (ubiquitin conjugating enzyme E2 O) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

UBE2O (Ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme E2 O) is a protein encoded by the UBE2O gene in humans. During terminal erythroid differentiation, UBE2O plays a role in eliminating generic cellular components while simultaneously facilitating the synthesis of hemoglobin.

UBE2O acts as both an E2 and E3 ubiquitin ligase, monoubiquitinating target proteins. It negatively regulates NF-κB activation through TRAF6, independent of its E2 activity. UBE2O positively regulates BMP7 signaling by monoubiquitinating SMAD6, impacting adipogenesis. It monoubiquitinates the nuclear localization signal (NLS) of BAP1, INO80, and CXXC1, leading to their cytoplasmic retention. Additionally, UBE2O assists the TRIM27:MAGEL2 complex in 'Lys-63'-linked ubiquitination of WASHC1, promoting endosomal F-actin assembly during retrograde transport.

UBE2O is also known as E2-230K.
