UBE2M

Description

The UBE2M (ubiquitin conjugating enzyme E2 M) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

UBE2M, also known as NEDD8-conjugating enzyme Ubc12, is a protein involved in the process of protein ubiquitination. Ubiquitination is crucial for targeting abnormal or short-lived proteins for degradation. UBE2M belongs to the ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme family (E2s) and is responsible for attaching a ubiquitin-like protein, NEDD8, to other proteins. This process involves an interaction with the E1 enzyme complex (UBA3-NAE1) and the E3 ubiquitin ligase RBX1. UBE2M has been shown to interact with NEDD8, PRKAR1A, and UBA3.

UBE2M is also known as UBC-RS2, UBC12, hUbc12.
