UBD

Description

The UBD (ubiquitin D) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 6.

UBD may refer to:

UBD (Ubiquitin D) is a ubiquitin-like protein modifier that can be attached to target proteins, leading to their degradation by the 26S proteasome in a NUB1-dependent manner. It functions as a survival factor and its conjugation ability is activated by UBA6. UBD promotes the expression of the proteasome subunit beta type-9 (PSMB9/LMP2) and regulates the activation of NF-kappa-B, a central mediator of innate immunity. It is involved in TNF-alpha-mediated proteasomal degradation of ubiquitinated-I-kappa-B-alpha and required for TNF-alpha-induced p65 nuclear translocation in renal tubular epithelial cells (RTECs). UBD may be involved in dendritic cell maturation, mitotic non-disjunction, and chromosome instability. It also mediates apoptosis in a caspase-dependent manner, especially in renal epithelium and tubular cells during renal diseases such as polycystic kidney disease and HIV-associated nephropathy (HIVAN).

UBD is also known as FAT10, UBD-3.
