TWF2

Description

The TWF2 (twinfilin actin binding protein 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 3.

Twinfilin-2 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the TWF2 gene. The protein encoded by this gene was identified by its interaction with the catalytic domain of protein kinase C-zeta. The encoded protein contains an actin-binding site and an ATP-binding site. It is most closely related to twinfilin (PTK9), a conserved actin monomer-binding protein.

Twinfilin-2 is an actin-binding protein that plays a role in cellular motility and morphology. It inhibits actin polymerization by sequestering G-actin monomers and regulates motility by capping the barbed ends of actin filaments. Twinfilin-2 is involved in clathrin-mediated endocytosis and distribution of endocytic organelles. It may also regulate the length of stereocilia.

TWF2 is also known as A6RP, A6r, MSTP011, PTK9L.
