TWF1

Description

The TWF1 (twinfilin actin binding protein 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.

Twinfilin-1 is a protein produced by the TWF1 gene in humans. It is a type of actin monomer-binding protein found in various organisms, from yeast to mammals. Research on the mouse version of this protein suggests that it binds to actin monomers, and its location in cell structures rich in G-actin (unpolymerized actin) may be controlled by the RAC1 protein.

Twinfilin-1 is an actin-binding protein involved in cellular movement and shape changes. It inhibits the formation of actin filaments by binding to individual actin monomers (G-actin). Twinfilin-1 also regulates movement by attaching to the ends of actin filaments (barbed ends). Evidence suggests that it plays a role in the process of endocytosis (bringing molecules into the cell) and the distribution of cellular structures involved in endocytosis.

TWF1 is also known as A6, PTK9.
