TSPAN7

Description

The TSPAN7 (tetraspanin 7) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome X.

Tetraspanin-7 is a protein encoded by the TSPAN7 gene in humans. It belongs to the transmembrane 4 superfamily (tetraspanin family), known for their role in cell development, activation, growth, and motility. TSPAN7 is a cell surface glycoprotein that may contribute to neurite outgrowth. It interacts with integrins. The gene has been linked to X-linked mental retardation and neuropsychiatric disorders like Huntington's chorea, fragile X syndrome, and myotonic dystrophy. Recent research suggests TSPAN7 is a key immune system target in type 1 diabetes.

TSPAN7 may play a role in cell proliferation and movement.

TSPAN7 is also known as A15, CCG-B7, CD231, DXS1692E, MRX58, MXS1, TALLA-1, TM4SF2, TM4SF2b, XLID58.
