TNS1


Description

The TNS1 (tensin 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.

Tensin-1 is a protein encoded by the TNS1 gene in humans. It localizes to focal adhesions, regions where cells attach to the extracellular matrix. Tensin-1 crosslinks actin filaments and contains a Src homology 2 (SH2) domain, often found in signal transduction molecules. It is a substrate of calpain II. Another transcript from this gene has been identified, but its full length is yet to be determined.

Tensin-1 may function as a protein phosphatase and/or a lipid phosphatase. It is involved in the formation of fibrillar adhesions, essential for myofibroblast differentiation and extracellular matrix deposition by myofibroblasts. Tensin-1 enhances RHOA activation in the presence of DLC1, and plays a role in cell polarization and migration. Additionally, it may contribute to cartilage development and link signal transduction pathways to the cytoskeleton.
