TNPO2

Description

The TNPO2 (transportin 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

Transportin-2 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the TNPO2 gene.

== Interactions == TNPO2 has been shown to interact with NXF1, NUP98 and Ran (biology).

TNPO2 likely functions as a nuclear transport receptor, playing a role in nuclear protein import. It recognizes and binds to nuclear localization signals (NLS) on cargo proteins, facilitating their entry into the nucleus. TNPO2 interacts with nucleoporins to dock the importin-substrate complex at the nuclear pore complex (NPC). Subsequently, the complex is transported through the NPC in a Ran-dependent, energy-requiring process. At the nuclear side of the NPC, Ran binds to TNPO2, leading to the dissociation of the importin-substrate complex and the export of TNPO2 back to the cytoplasm. GTP hydrolysis releases Ran, ensuring the directionality of nuclear import. The uneven distribution of Ran in its GTP- and GDP-bound forms between the cytoplasm and nucleus is thought to drive this process.

TNPO2 is also known as IDDHISD, IPO3, KPNB2B, TRN2.
