TMEM9
Description
The TMEM9 (transmembrane protein 9) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.
Transmembrane protein 9 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the TMEM9 gene.
TMEM9 facilitates the assembly of lysosomal proton-transporting V-type ATPase (v-ATPase), enhancing lysosomal acidification and trafficking. It brings together the v-ATPase accessory protein ATP6AP2 and the v-ATPase subunit ATP6V0D1, enabling v-ATPase complex formation and activation. TMEM9-controlled vesicular acidification hyperactivates Wnt/beta-catenin signaling through lysosomal degradation of adenomatous polyposis coli/APC, impacting development, tissue homeostasis, and regeneration. In the liver, TMEM9 contributes to hepatic regeneration.
TMEM9 is also known as DERM4, TMEM9A.
