TMEM59L

Description

The TMEM59L (transmembrane protein 59 like) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

TMEM59L influences the modification of a protein called APP during its processing in the Golgi apparatus. It regulates the addition of sugar molecules (O-glycosylation and complex N-glycosylation) to APP and hinders its movement to the cell's outer surface, ultimately reducing its breakdown.

TMEM59L is also known as BSMAP, C19orf4.
