TMEM19
Description
The TMEM19 (transmembrane protein 19) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.
The TMEM19 gene is located on chromosome 12 (12q21.1), spanning 18,966 base pairs on the + strand. It contains 6 exons. The mRNA transcript of TMEM19 is 5662 base pairs long. Studies have shown that TMEM19 is involved in ammonia nitrogen tolerance and is a risk factor for non-syndromic cleft lip with palate (NSCLP). TMEM19 is expressed in most tissues but shows increased expression in the duodenum, kidney, skin, small intestine, and urinary bladder. In a non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) model, TMEM19 expression was found to be involved in cell death due to excessive disulfide formation in the actin cytoskeleton.
