Description
The TMEM174 (transmembrane protein 174) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 5.
TMEM174 is a key regulator of plasma phosphate homeostasis. It acts by controlling the uptake of inorganic phosphate (Pi) from the bloodstream, specifically by influencing the trafficking of the sodium-phosphate cotransporter SLC34A1 in the kidney. This regulation is mediated by the hormones parathyroid hormone (PTH) and fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23).
