TMEM163

Description

The TMEM163 (transmembrane protein 163) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.

TMEM163 is a transmembrane protein that acts as a zinc ion transporter, mediating zinc efflux and contributing to intracellular zinc homeostasis. It binds to divalent cations like Zn(2+), Ni(2+), and to a lesser extent Cu(2+). TMEM163 modulates the function of P2X purinoceptors, including P2RX1, P2RX3, P2RX4, and P2RX7. It is involved in central nervous system development, playing a vital role in myelination and the survival and proliferation of oligodendrocytes.

TMEM163 is also known as DC29, HLD25, SLC30A11, SV31.
