TM4SF1
Description
The TM4SF1 (transmembrane 4 L six family member 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 3.
TM4SF1 is a gene that encodes a protein belonging to the transmembrane 4 superfamily, also known as the tetraspanin family. These proteins typically have four hydrophobic domains and are found on the cell surface. They play a key role in signal transduction pathways, influencing cell development, activation, growth, and motility. The TM4SF1 protein itself is a cell surface antigen highly expressed in various carcinomas. It has also been identified as a marker of Wnt-responsive alveolar epithelial progenitor cells and is involved in alveolar repair in damaged lung tissue. Additionally, its hypomethylation and upregulation have been observed in asthma, suggesting a potential role as a prognostic indicator.
The TM4SF1 gene encodes a protein involved in signal transduction events that influence cell development, activation, growth, and motility. It plays a critical role in alveolar epithelial progenitor cells, particularly in lung repair. Increased expression and hypomethylation of this gene have been observed in asthma, potentially serving as a prognostic marker.
TM4SF1 is also known as H-L6, L6, M3S1, TAAL6.
