TIE1
Description
The TIE1 (tyrosine kinase with immunoglobulin like and EGF like domains 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.
TIE1, also known as Tyrosine kinase with immunoglobulin-like and EGF-like domains 1, is an angiopoietin receptor encoded by the TIE1 gene in humans. It is a cell surface protein primarily found in endothelial cells, but also expressed in immature hematopoietic cells and platelets. TIE1 promotes the expression of cell adhesion molecules (CAMs) like VCAM-1, E-selectin, and ICAM-1 via a p38-dependent mechanism, enhancing the attachment of monocyte-derived immune cells to endothelial cells. TIE1 exhibits proinflammatory effects and may contribute to endothelial inflammatory diseases like atherosclerosis.
TIE1 is a transmembrane tyrosine-protein kinase involved in regulating angiogenesis, potentially by modulating the activity of TEK/TIE2.
