TIAM2

Description

The TIAM2 (TIAM Rac1 associated GEF 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 6.

TIAM2 is a key regulator of cell morphology and movement, influencing cytoskeletal organization by modulating the activity of Rho-like proteins. It acts as a GDP-dissociation stimulator, activating GTPases like Rac1 through GDP-GTP exchange. This activation mediates responses to extracellular signals, such as laminin, promoting neurite growth and lamellipodial formation in neurons. Specifically, TIAM2 activates RAC1, but not CDC42 or RHOA, and contributes to neuronal migration in the cerebral cortex. Overexpression of TIAM2 leads to membrane ruffling and actin filament accumulation near the plasma membrane.

TIAM2 is also known as STEF, TIAM-2.
