THBS3

Description

The THBS3 (thrombospondin 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

THBS3 is a gene that encodes a protein belonging to the thrombospondin family. These proteins are involved in cell-to-cell and cell-to-matrix interactions. THBS3 plays a role in skeletal maturation and forms a pentameric molecule linked by a single disulfide bond. It shares a promoter with metaxin 1 and has been linked to genetic susceptibility to SARS-CoV-2 infection.

THBS3 is an adhesive glycoprotein involved in cell-to-cell and cell-to-matrix interactions. It can bind to various extracellular matrix proteins, including fibrinogen, fibronectin, laminin, and type V collagen.

THBS3 is also known as TSP3.
