THBS2

Description

The THBS2 (thrombospondin 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 6.

Thrombospondin-2 is a protein encoded by the THBS2 gene in humans. It belongs to the thrombospondin family and is a disulfide-linked homotrimeric glycoprotein. Its role in cell-to-cell and cell-to-matrix interactions is crucial. The protein's involvement in cancer is complex, with studies showing both positive and negative effects on cancer development. Research in mice suggests that THBS2 may alter the surface properties of mesenchymal cells and contribute to cell adhesion and migration. THBS2 interacts with MMP2.

Thrombospondin-2 is an adhesive glycoprotein that helps cells connect with each other and with the surrounding matrix. It interacts with CD36, which leads to anti-angiogenic properties (inhibiting blood vessel growth).

THBS2 is also known as EDSCLL3, TSP2.
