TESC

Description

The TESC (tescalcin) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.

TESC may refer to Tescalcin, a protein involved in cell pH regulation and blood cell development.

TESC, also known as Tescalcin, plays a crucial role in regulating cell pH by controlling the activity of sodium-hydrogen exchangers (NHEs) at the cell membrane. It facilitates the maturation, transport, and stabilization of NHE1 at the cell surface, ensuring optimal NHE1 activity. TESC also promotes differentiation of hematopoietic stem cells into megakaryocytes, a process essential for platelet production. This involves coordinating the activation of the ERK signaling pathway with the expression of ETS family genes, which are crucial for megakaryocyte development. TESC further contributes to granulocytic differentiation, again through ERK-dependent mechanisms. Notably, TESC inhibits the activity of calcineurin, a phosphatase involved in various cellular processes.

TESC is also known as CHP3, TSC.
