Description

The TEC (tec protein tyrosine kinase) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 4.

TEC or Tec may refer to: Tyrosine-protein kinase Tec, a non-receptor tyrosine kinase involved in numerous cellular functions, including immune response regulation, cell development and differentiation, signaling pathways, and cytokine production.

TEC is a non-receptor tyrosine kinase involved in signaling pathways triggered by various receptors. It acts as a signal transducer in multiple pathways, including regulation of the actin cytoskeleton. TEC plays a redundant role to ITK in regulating the adaptive immune response and is essential for the development, function, and differentiation of conventional T-cells and nonconventional NKT-cells. It is required for TCR-dependent IL2 gene induction and contributes to CD28 signaling by phosphorylating DOK1, a CD28-specific substrate. TEC also negatively regulates IL2RA expression induced by TCR cross-linking. Similar to BTK, TEC is involved in BCR signaling for B-cell development and activation, particularly by phosphorylating STAP1, a BCR-signaling protein. In mast cells, TEC is crucial for efficient cytokine production. TEC also contributes to growth and differentiation mechanisms of myeloid cells through activation by the granulocyte colony-stimulating factor CSF3. It participates in platelet signaling downstream of integrin activation and cooperates with JAK2 to mediate cytokine-driven activation of FOS transcription. TEC also interacts with GRB10, a negative modifier of the FOS activation pathway. TEC is involved in signaling pathways triggered by G protein-coupled receptors and integrins in blood platelets. It plays a role in hepatocyte proliferation and liver regeneration, contributing to HGF-induced ERK signaling pathway. TEC also regulates FGF2 unconventional secretion through phosphorylation of FGF2 'Tyr-215'. TEC may also be involved in the regulation of osteoclast differentiation.

TEC is also known as PSCTK4.
