TAS2R8

Description

The TAS2R8 (taste 2 receptor member 8) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.

TAS2R8, the gene encoding Taste receptor type 2 member 8, belongs to a family of taste receptors involved in bitter perception. These receptors are members of the G-protein-coupled receptor superfamily and are specifically expressed in taste receptor cells of the tongue and palate. They are organized in clusters within the genome and are linked to genetic loci influencing bitter perception in both mice and humans. Functional studies demonstrate their responsiveness to bitter tastants. TAS2R8 maps to the taste receptor gene cluster on chromosome 12p13.

TAS2R8 is also known as T2R8, TRB5.
