TAS2R50

Description

The TAS2R50 (taste 2 receptor member 50) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.

Taste receptor type 2 member 50 is a protein in humans encoded by the TAS2R50 gene. It is part of the large TAS2R receptor family, which are expressed on taste receptor cells. These receptors mediate bitterness perception through a G protein-coupled second messenger pathway. TAS2R50 is related to TAS2R10, another member of this family.

This receptor is thought to contribute to the perception of bitterness and is linked to gustducin. It may also play a role in sensing the composition of the gastrointestinal tract. Activation of this receptor potentially stimulates alpha gustducin, activates PLC-beta-2, and leads to the opening of TRPM5, a process similar to other taste receptors.

TAS2R50 is also known as T2R50, T2R51, TAS2R51.
