The TAAR6 (trace amine associated receptor 6) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 6.

TAAR6, or Trace Amine-associated Receptor 6, is a protein encoded by the TAAR6 gene in humans. It belongs to the trace amine-associated receptor family, which are receptors for trace amines, endogenous amine compounds similar to classic biogenic amines like dopamine, norepinephrine, serotonin, and histamine. While trace amines were initially thought to be 'false transmitters', their specific receptors have been identified, indicating they have their own effects. TAAR6 is expressed in the hippocampus, where it might play a role in neurogenesis. Computational modeling suggests TAAR6 binds to putrescine and cadaverine, compounds found in rotting flesh. Mutant mice lacking TAAR6 exhibit behavioral differences compared to wild-type mice, including elevated serotonin levels in brain regions and enhanced hypothermic response to 5-HT1A receptor agonists.
