SULF2

Description

The SULF2 (sulfatase 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 20.

Sulf-2 is an enzyme encoded by the SULF2 gene in humans. It plays a role in cell signaling by removing 6-O-sulfate groups from heparan sulfate, a component of heparan sulfate proteoglycans (HSPGs) which act as coreceptors for numerous heparin-binding growth factors and cytokines.

Sulf-2 exhibits arylsulfatase activity and highly specific endoglucosamine-6-sulfatase activity. It removes sulfate from the C-6 position of glucosamine within specific subregions of intact heparin.

SULF2 is also known as HSULF-2.
