STXBP4

Description

The STXBP4 (syntaxin binding protein 4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

STXBP4 plays a crucial role in the movement of transport vesicles within cells, facilitating their transport from the cytoplasm to the plasma membrane. It also acts as a regulator of glucose transport, specifically inhibiting the movement of SLC2A4 from intracellular vesicles to the plasma membrane by binding to STX4A and blocking its interaction with VAMP2. Notably, insulin stimulation disrupts this interaction, leading to increased levels of SLC2A4 at the plasma membrane. Furthermore, STXBP4 might contribute to the regulation of insulin release by pancreatic beta cells in response to glucose stimulation.

STXBP4 is also known as Synip.
