STX4
Description
The STX4 (syntaxin 4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 16.
Syntaxin-4 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the STX4 gene.
Syntaxin-4 is a plasma membrane t-SNARE protein that facilitates the docking of transport vesicles. It plays a crucial role in the movement of SLC2A4 from intracellular vesicles to the plasma membrane. In neurons, Syntaxin-4 localizes to neurite tips, promoting the surface expression of the dopamine transporter SLC6A3/DAT by mediating the fusion of SLC6A3-containing transport vesicles with the plasma membrane. Alongside STXB3 and VAMP2, Syntaxin-4 may participate in the docking and fusion of GLUT4-containing vesicles in adipocytes and synaptic vesicles at presynaptic active zones.
STX4 is also known as DFNB123, STX4A, p35-2.
