STOML3

Description

The STOML3 (stomatin like 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 13.

STOML3 is essential for the proper function of numerous mechanoreceptors, which are sensory receptors that respond to mechanical stimuli. It plays a role in regulating the activity of mechanotransduction channels and acid-sensing ion channels (ASICs). STOML3 enhances the sensitivity of PIEZO1 and PIEZO2, two mechanosensitive ion channels, to mechanical forces, thereby increasing their responsiveness.

STOML3 is also known as Epb7.2l, SRO.
