STARD8

Description

The STARD8 (StAR related lipid transfer domain containing 8) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome X.

STARD8, also known as DLC-3, is a protein encoded by the STARD8 gene. It belongs to the DLC family and contains a sterile alpha motif (SAM), RhoGAP, and a StAR-related lipid-transfer (START) domain. As a Rho GTPase-activating protein (GAP), STARD8 regulates members of the Rho family of GTPases and activates Rho GTPases. It is expressed throughout the body but is absent or reduced in many tumor cells. While STARD8 has not been linked to any known disorders, partial loss of the STARD8 gene can occur in cases of craniofrontonasal syndrome where the EFNB1 gene is completely deleted.

STARD8 accelerates the GTPase activity of RHOA and CDC42, but not RAC1. It also stimulates the hydrolysis of phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate by PLCD1.

STARD8 is also known as ARHGAP38, DLC3, STARTGAP3.
