ST3GAL6
Description
The ST3GAL6 (ST3 beta-galactoside alpha-2,3-sialyltransferase 6) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 3.
ST3GAL6 plays a crucial role in the synthesis of sialyl-paragloboside, which acts as a precursor for the sialyl-Lewis X determinant. This enzyme exhibits alpha-2,3-sialyltransferase activity, specifically targeting Gal-beta1,4-GlcNAc structures present on glycoproteins and glycolipids. ST3GAL6 exhibits a restricted substrate specificity, utilizing Gal-beta1,4-GlcNAc on glycoproteins, neolactotetraosylceramide, and neolactohexaosylceramide. However, it does not act on lactotetraosylceramide, lactosylceramide, or asialo-GM1.
ST3GAL6 is also known as SIAT10, ST3GALVI.
