SSR1

Description

The SSR1 (signal sequence receptor subunit 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 6.

SSR1 encodes the alpha subunit of the signal sequence receptor (SSR), a glycosylated endoplasmic reticulum (ER) membrane receptor involved in protein translocation across the ER membrane. The SSR consists of two subunits: the 34-kDa glycoprotein encoded by SSR1 and a 22-kDa glycoprotein. The gene produces various mRNA species due to complex alternative polyadenylation. Notably, SSR1 uses arrays of polyA signal sequences that are exclusively non-canonical.

SSR1 is also known as TRAPA.
