SSNA1

Description

The SSNA1 (SS nuclear autoantigen 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 9.

SSNA1 is a microtubule-binding protein that stabilizes dynamic microtubules by slowing growth and shrinkage at both ends. It acts as a sensor of microtubule damage, protecting microtubules from the microtubule-severing enzyme SPAST. SSNA1 also induces microtubule branching through the formation of long fibrils that guide microtubule protofilaments to split from the mother microtubule and form daughter microtubules. This protein plays a role in axon outgrowth and branching and is essential for cell division.

SSNA1 is also known as N14, NA-14, NA14.
