SSH1
Description
The SSH1 (slingshot protein phosphatase 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.
SSH1 is an enzyme encoded by the SSH1 gene. It belongs to the ADF/cofilin family of proteins, which are involved in regulating actin dynamics. ADF/cofilin proteins are inactivated by kinases such as LIMK1.
SSH1 is a protein phosphatase that regulates actin filament dynamics. It dephosphorylates and activates cofilin, which then binds to actin filaments and stimulates their disassembly. SSH1 also dephosphorylates and inactivates LIMK1, which is the kinase responsible for phosphorylating and inactivating cofilin. This protein phosphatase plays a role in cell migration and motility by controlling the dynamics of the actin cytoskeleton.
