SRSF3


Description

The SRSF3 (serine and arginine rich splicing factor 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 6.

SRSF3 is a splicing factor that binds to a specific sequence (5'-C[ACU][AU]C[ACU][AC]C-3') within pre-mRNA and helps to include certain exons during alternative splicing. It interacts with the protein YTHDC1, which recognizes and binds to N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modified RNA, to be recruited to mRNA-binding elements near m6A sites within exons. SRSF3 also acts as an adapter for mRNA export from the nucleus, binding to mRNA and facilitating its transfer to the NXF1-NXT1 heterodimer for export via the TAP/NXF1 pathway. SRSF3 enhances the RNA-binding activity of NXF1-NXT1. This protein also facilitates the nuclear export of m6A-containing mRNAs via its interaction with YTHDC1. This interaction enables both SRSF3 and NXF1 to bind to m6A-containing mRNA, promoting its export from the nucleus.

SRSF3 is also known as SFRS3, SRp20.
