SPTY2D1

Description

The SPTY2D1 (SPT2 chromatin protein domain containing 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

SPTY2D1 functions as a histone chaperone that stabilizes pre-existing histone tetramers and regulates histone exchange on chromatin, independent of replication. It's crucial for proper chromatin refolding within the coding regions of transcribed genes and suppresses spurious transcription. SPTY2D1 binds to DNA and histones, promoting nucleosome assembly in vitro. It facilitates the formation of tetrameric histone complexes containing histone H3 and H4. Additionally, SPTY2D1 modulates RNA polymerase 1-mediated transcription. It demonstrates a preference for branched DNA structures, such as Y-form DNA and Holliday junction DNA.

SPTY2D1 is also known as Spt2.
