SPON1
Description
The SPON1 (spondin 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.
Spondin-1 (also known as F-spondin) is a protein encoded by the SPON1 gene in humans. It is secreted by cells in the floor plate and may be involved in axon guidance. The protein contains 807 amino acids and is structured with six thrombospondin domains, one reelin domain, and one spondin domain.
SPON1 is a cell adhesion protein that facilitates the binding of spinal cord and sensory neuron cells, promoting the growth of neurites in laboratory settings. It plays a potential role in guiding axons within both the spinal cord and the peripheral nervous system. SPON1 is a major factor in vascular smooth muscle cell development.
SPON1 is also known as VSGP/F-spondin, f-spondin.
