SPOCK1
Description
The SPOCK1 (SPARC (osteonectin), cwcv and kazal like domains proteoglycan 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 5.
Testican-1 is a protein encoded by the SPOCK1 gene in humans. It forms the core of a seminal plasma proteoglycan containing chondroitin- and heparan-sulfate chains. Its function is under investigation, but it belongs to the same glycoprotein family as SPARC. Its similarity to thyropin-type cysteine protease inhibitors suggests that it might be involved in protease inhibition.
SPOCK1 is also known as SPOCK, TESTICAN, TIC1.
