SOSTDC1

Description

The SOSTDC1 (sclerostin domain containing 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 7.

SOSTDC1, or Sclerostin domain-containing protein 1, is a protein produced by the SOSTDC1 gene. It belongs to the sclerostin family and is a secreted, N-glycosylated protein with a unique C-terminal domain. SOSTDC1 functions as an antagonist of bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs), preventing them from interacting with their receptors. This inhibition regulates BMP signaling, which is involved in various cellular processes like proliferation, differentiation, and programmed cell death. Inhibiting SOSTDC1 could potentially stimulate tooth regeneration and is therefore of interest for dentistry.

SOSTDC1 plays a role in preparing the uterine lining for implantation by influencing endometrial receptivity. It enhances Wnt signaling and suppresses TGF-beta signaling, possibly through a similar mechanism to other members of its family. SOSTDC1 directly inhibits the activity of BMP2, BMP4, BMP6, and BMP7 in a dose-dependent manner.

SOSTDC1 is also known as CDA019, DAND7, ECTODIN, USAG1.
