SMYD1

Description

The SMYD1 (SET and MYND domain containing 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.

SMYD1 is a histone methyltransferase that specifically targets histone H3 at lysine 4 (H3K4). It can catalyze mono-, di-, and trimethylation of this residue. SMYD1 functions as a transcriptional repressor and plays a crucial role in cardiomyocyte differentiation and heart development.

SMYD1 is also known as BOP, KMT3D, ZMYND18, ZMYND22.
