SMCO3
Description
The SMCO3 (single-pass membrane protein with coiled-coil domains 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.
SMCO3, also known as C12orf69 or LOC440087, is a gene located on chromosome 12 (12p12.3). It spans 10,460 base pairs and contains two exons separated by a single intron. SMCO3 is situated near WBP11 and ART4 on the negative strand, overlapping with C12orf60 on the positive strand. The gene encodes a single protein isoform and exhibits low expression in tissues like cervix, connective tissue, eye, lung, and prostate. However, it shows significantly higher expression in the kidney, liver, and spleen. Notably, SMCO3 is also upregulated in cancers, specifically chondrosarcoma and clear-cell renal cell carcinoma. Expression is limited to fetal and adult stages, being absent in earlier developmental stages.
SMCO3 is a protein involved in various cellular processes. It is expressed in multiple human tissues, with higher levels observed in kidney, liver, and spleen. Interestingly, its expression is also elevated in certain cancers, particularly chondrosarcoma and clear-cell renal cell carcinoma. Notably, SMCO3 expression is restricted to fetal and adult stages, being absent in earlier developmental stages.
SMCO3 is also known as C12orf69.
