Choline transporter that plays a role in the choline-acetylcholine system. Required for efferent innervation of hair cells in the olivocochlear bundle, contributing to the maintenance of physiological function of outer hair cells and protection from acoustic injury. Also functions as a thiamine pyrophosphate transporter in the colon, potentially mediating the absorption of microbiota-generated thiamine pyrophosphate and contributing to host thiamine (vitamin B1) homeostasis.
