SLC44A2

Description

The SLC44A2 (solute carrier family 44 member 2 (CTL2 blood group)) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

Choline transporter-like protein 2 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the SLC44A2 gene.

Choline/H+ antiporter, mainly located in mitochondria (PubMed:10677542, PubMed:20665236, PubMed:33789160, PubMed:23651124). It also functions as a low-affinity ethanolamine/H+ antiporter, regulating extracellular ethanolamine (Etn) supply for the CDP-Etn pathway. Additionally, it redistributes intracellular Etn and balances the CDP-Cho and CDP-Etn arms of the Kennedy pathway (PubMed:33789160).

SLC44A2 is also known as CTL2, PP1292.
