SLC38A4

Description

The SLC38A4 (solute carrier family 38 member 4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.

SLC38A4 is a symporter that cotransports neutral amino acids and sodium ions across the cell membrane from the extracellular to the intracellular space. This transport process is electrogenic, dependent on pH, and partially tolerates the substitution of sodium ions with lithium ions. SLC38A4 preferentially transports smaller amino acids, including glycine, L-alanine, L-serine, L-asparagine, and L-threonine, followed by L-cysteine, L-histidine, L-proline, L-glutamine, and L-methionine.

SLC38A4 is also known as ATA3, NAT3, PAAT, SNAT4.
