SLC28A2

Description

The SLC28A2 (solute carrier family 28 member 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 15.

SLC28A2 encodes for Concentrative nucleoside transporter 2 (CNT2), a protein involved in the transport of nucleosides.

SLC28A2 is a sodium-dependent and purine-selective transporter. It exhibits the transport characteristics of the nucleoside transport system cif or N1 subtype (N1/cif), showing selectivity for purine nucleosides and uridine. This transporter plays a crucial role in the specific uptake and salvage of purine nucleosides in the kidney and other tissues. SLC28A2 may also contribute to regulating the transport of organic compounds in the testes across the blood-testis barrier.

SLC28A2 is also known as CNT2, HCNT2, HsT17153, SPNT1.
