SLC25A51

Description

The SLC25A51 (solute carrier family 25 member 51) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 9.

SLC25A51, also known as Mitochondrial NAD(+) transporter SLC25A51, is a mitochondrial membrane carrier protein that facilitates the import of NAD(+) into mitochondria. This transport is crucial for glycolysis and mitochondrial respiration, and is more essential than SLC25A52 for NAD(+) import. While the transport mechanism, whether uniport or antiport, and its electrogenicity and substrate selectivity are still under investigation, SLC25A51 plays a vital role in mitochondrial NAD(+) homeostasis.

SLC25A51 is also known as CG7943, MCART1.
