SLC25A2

Description

The SLC25A2 (solute carrier family 25 member 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 5.

SLC25A2 is a mitochondrial transporter that facilitates the movement of various amino acids across the mitochondrial membrane. It primarily transports positively charged amino acids like ornithine, lysine, and arginine, as well as the neutral amino acid citrulline. Additionally, it transports basic amino acids including histidine, homoarginine, and asymmetric dimethylarginine (aDMA), but not symmetric DMA. Interestingly, SLC25A2 can also transport the D-forms of lysine, arginine, ornithine, and histidine. The transport mechanism employed by SLC25A2 involves both counter-exchange and uniport processes.

SLC25A2 is also known as ORC2, ORNT2.
